Chapter 2 This chapter begins shortly after the 1st one. Pug is with his good friend from the Castle who has almost been like an adopted brother to him. Thomas's parents have even treated Pug as if he was one of his own in the Castle. They are walking through the woods talking about the coming Choosing ceremony. A Festival where all boys in the castle and town are chosen by the Master Craftsmen and Castle staff to be new apprentices. Most if they are the sons of Masters then those are typically the crafts they are chosen into. Other sons may join new crafts if their father has no more room or the certain boy shows the aptitude for a certain craft. While in the woods they happen upon a majestic deer with a huge antler. The Dukes Huntmaster happens upon the boys and is able to calmly walk up the deer and then, in turn, have the boys approach the deer to pet it. Chapter 1 Our story begins with a young boy named Pug collecting some kind of small sea creature at the shore. We get a quick impression that Pug lives a bit undisciplined. He falls asleep on the rocks and eventually loses the sack of creatures. He was on a task for someone at the Castle at Crydee but he seems to take the leisurely route and take his time. He remarks about the different ways in which he can can get in trouble when getting back and with whom. Making it clear this is something he is familiar with. He wakes up from his nap on the rocks later than he wanted. In his rush to get back he twists his ankle. Leaving him a little gimp and late getting back to the castle. He sets off through the forest and ends up in a bad storm in the night. After a wild boar almost kills him in the woods he is saved by a sturdy stoic woodsman type individual who takes him  back to a cabin to wait out the storm.
